1. System Requirements for Share360 |
Before you install, you need to make sure that you have an adequate system to run Share360.
-
Required Environments for Share360
- A server OS (such as Windows, Linux or FreeBSD) that has TCP/IP networking enabled and which has a static IP address.
- Web Server - IIS, Apache etc. If you don't have a Web Server, you can install Share360 with the Cybozu Web Server. Each user will access the server from client PC's on a network to use Share360.
- Client PC's, equipped with Web browsers. Client PC's only need Web browsers, such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. Therefore, you can use Share360 in an environment where different operating systems like Windows, Mac OS, UNIX and FreeBSD co-exist.
Those are the basics. For more detailed information, see below:
-
Server OS
Windows
Compatible with IBM PC-AT-based machines on an Intel or an Intel-compatible CPU.
- Windows XP Professional
- Windows 2000 Professional
- Windows 2000 Server
- Windows NT Workstation 4.0
- Windows NT Server 4.0
- Windows 98
Linux
Linux 2.X (only on hardware with an Intel or an Intel-compatible CPU) *.
We recommend the following distributions for Linux:
- Red Hat Linux
- Mandrake Linux
- SuSE Linux
- Turbo Linux
* Share360 for Linux works only on IBM PC-AT-based machines with an Intel or an Intel-compatible CPU and is not compatible with Cobalt Qube products with a MIPS CPU. Cobalt Qube 3 is fully supported. Before using it, please confirm your hardware/software environment.
FreeBSD 2.X/3.X/4.X (only on hardware with an Intel or an Intel-compatible CPU) .
-
Web Server
You need to install a web server on the server machine to use Share360.
If you don't already have one of the Web servers listed below, or you don't want to download these, you can use the Cybozu Web Server for Windows, which comes with our product! Simply install and follow the installation wizard to use the Cybozu Web Server.
Windows
- IIS 2.0/3.0 -Please refer to this page for an installation.
- IIS 4.0 -Please refer to this page for an installation.
- IIS 5.0 -Please refer to this page for an installation.
- Peer Web Services (only for Windows NT 4)-Please refer to this page for an installation.
- Personal Web Server 4.0 (only for Windows 98) -Please refer to this page for an installation.
Linux/FreeBSD
- Apache 1.1 or later
* For detailed specifications, installation settings and operations for Web servers, please refer to your Web Server's manufacturer.
-
Client PC's: Web browser environments
Share360 should only be installed on a server machine; you do not need to and should not install anything on client PC's, except for a Web browser.
Share360 can be accessed properly using the following Web browsers.
- Internet Explorer 4.0 or later
- Netscape Navigator 4.7 or later
Notes:
With Netscape Navigator 4.7, there may be a case that graphic files on Share360 do not display properly. If this happens, we recommend Netscape 6.2.
We also recommend using Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher for Macintosh.
-
Server/Hardware Environments
CPU CPU:
Windows: Intel Pentium 90 MHz or faster*
Linux: Intel Pentium 90 MHz or faster*
*Windows and Linux versions work only on IBM PC-AT machines with an Intel or an Intel-compatible CPU and is not compatible with Cobalt Qube products with MIPS CPU. (Cobalt Qube 3 is fully supported.) Before using it, please confirm your hardware/software environmentMemory Recommended: 64 M byte or more
Minimum: 32 M byte
[A guideline for comfortable operations]
50 users version: 64 Mbytes or more
100 users version: 128 Mbytes or more
* Because Windows 98 is not designed to serve as a server, there may be cases that you cannot operate it properly.
In case of an operation with a small number of users and a small number of transactions, where you will shut down Win 98 everyday, it may work, but we cannot guarantee its stable operation.
We highly recommend to use with Win NT4.0/2000 or LINUXHard Disk capacity Recommended: 50 M byte or more
Minimum: 10 M byte
In case of using the File Attachment feature for Bulletin Board, WebMail, Discussions, Cabinet,Memos & Web Forms, it will heavily depend on the size of attachment files.
* In case of using WebMail, you will need additional 1 M x number of users.Others Use IBM PC-AT machines.
In case of an operation with over 100 users, we recommend using dedicated server machine with SCSI disk. -
Guidelines for speed and stability
Share360 can be operated on several kinds of servers, but we recommend that you select the best OS according to your operation needs. The following lists basic guidelines:

- 98 - Windows 98
- NTW 4.0 - Windows NT Workstation 4.0
- NTS 4.0 - Windows NT Server 4.0
- 2000P - Windows 2000 Professional
- 2000S - Windows 2000 Server
- XP - Windows XP Professional
- Linux - Linux
- FreeBSD
The above evaluation is based on the assumption that Share360 will be used in an Intranet environment.
In the case of 300 or more users, we recommend that server clustering be used to reduce network and server load.
Note: Because Windows 98 is not designed to be used as a server, it may not operate properly. In case of an operation with a small number of users and a small number of transactions, where you shutdown Win 98 everyday, it may work. However, we cannot guarantee its stable operation. We highly recommend you use Win NT4.0/2000 or LINUX or FreeBSD.

The above Hard Disk and Memory capacities are for reference purposes only.
If you have 100 users or more, in addition to the above guidelines, we recommend using a dedicated server machine with a SCSI hard disk.
If you use WebMail, the hard disk's capacity will need to be monitored. For example, if one user sends/receives 10 text-only emails per day, an average of 2M per month will be used.
If there are emails with attachment files, more hard disk space will be used. Users can attach files in Bulletin Board, Project, Discussions, Cabinet, Memos, and Web Forms.
