Installation of Share360 on Windows

The following chapters will give you step-by-step instructions for installing Share360 on Windows. When installation is completed, you should be up and running, and ready to experience the benefits of Share360.

1. System Requirements for Share360 (Windows)

Before you install, verify that you have one of the following hardware and software configurations discussed below:

  1. Required Client/Server Environments for Share360:

A Windows server-based PC that has TCP/IP networking enabled and which has a static IP address.

Web Server - IIS, Peer Web Services, or Personal Web Server. Each user will access the server from a client PC on your network.

    • Client PC's, equipped with Web browsers. Client PC's only need Web browsers, such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, to access and use Share360. Therefore, you can use Share360 in an environment where different operating systems like Windows, Mac OS and UNIX co-exist.
  2. Required CPU/Operating System Environments for Share360:

Share360 only works on IBM PC-AT-based machines and higher, which use an Intel or an Intel-compatible CPU and which use one of the following operating systems:

    • Windows XP (Professional & Home)
    • Windows 2000 (Server & Professional)
    • Windows NT 4.0 (Server & Workstation)
    • Windows 98
  3. Web server requirements for Share360:

Share360 requires the installation and use of one of the following Web servers:

  4. Required client PC & Mac Web browsers for Share360:

Share360 should only be installed on a server PC; you do not need to and should not install anything on client PC's & Macs, except for a Web browser.

Share360 can be accessed properly with the following PC Web browsers.

    • Internet Explorer 4.0 or later
    • Netscape Navigator 4.x

Notes: With Netscape 6.0 and later, graphic files on Share360 may not display properly. We recommend Netscape Navigator 4.X.

For Macintosh, we recommend Netscape Navigator.

  5. Share360's compatibility with Windows operating systems:

Share360 is compatible with the following Windows operating systems:

    • 98 - Windows 98
    • NTW 4.0 - Windows NT Workstation 4.0
    • NTS 4.0 - Windows NT Server 4.0
    • 2000P - Windows 2000 Professional
    • 2000S - Windows 2000 Server
    • XP - Windows XP Professional

Note: Because Windows 98 is not designed for use as a server, it may not operate properly. If Windows 98 has a small number of users and a small number of transactions, and if you will shut it down every day, it may be fully operational. However, we cannot guarantee its stable operation. Therefore, we highly recommend that Share360 be installed and used on Windows NT/2000/XP.

2. Download and Run the Share360 Installer

The first step in installing Share360 is to run the installer.

  1. Log in with administrative rights, and download the Share360 installer file for Windows from the download center. You can download the file from the Share360 version 1 download center.

    Software License Agreement

  2. When you finish downloading the Share360 installer file for Windows, start the Share360 installation program by double-clicking on it. Follow the directions in each screen.

  3. Please read the Software License Agreement and click the Yes button if you agree with it.

3. Enter a Company/Group Name

Enter a company or group name when you install Share360. The company or group name entered becomes a keyword for the Share360 uninstallation process. When done, click the Next button.

Company/Group Name

4. Web Server Activated?

Share360 requires a Web server to work properly. If you know that you have an operational Web server, check Yes and press the Next button. If you don't have a Web server already, please read our system requirements. If you are unsure, you can click Don't know and the porgram will try to detect it for you.

Active Web Server

Note: We can't guarantee all the information regarding Web server detection since system configurations differ on different machines.

  1. If you click Yes, then please skip to the Home Directory section, or continue on to the next section.

5. Web Server Found

If you checked Don't Know in the previous screen, and our system detected a Web server, you will see the following screen. Please read the information carefully and click the Next button.

Web Server Found

  1. There are cases when a Web server may be found to be installed on your machine, but for some reason it does not respond to our request. You can have the installer try to start it for you (click Next), you can keep going and start it yourself later (click Next), or you can cancel and activate your Web server manually before installing (click Cancel).

    Web Server Started?

6. No Web Server

If you clicked Don't Know in the previous screen, and the installer can't find a suitable Web Server, you will see the following screen. This does not necessarily mean that you don't have a Web server; the installer only checks for a few familiar Web servers.

If our systen does not detect a web server, you have the choice to install the Cybozu Web Server. Cybozu Web Server comes bundled with Share360 and the installer will help you get it up and running.

Note: Be careful not to install this product if you already have a working Web server since it might cause conflicts later. You are also given the opportunity to continue installing and get a Web server later.

Cybozu Web Server

  1. For Windows 98 users, since Win98 is not designed as a Server OS, the installer will not install Cybozu Web Server for you. You can still install it manually if you wish. Please read Cybozu Web Server information.

7. Specify the Home Directory

You must specify a directory to be the home directory for your Web server.

  1. What is a Home Directory?

A home directory is the directory of a Web server that is reserved for files such as home page data files. It is also called a Document Root.

For IIS, Peer Web Services and Personal Web Server on Windows, a home directory can usually be found at C:\InetPub\wwwroot. If you have chosen another drive and/or if you have installed a non-Microsoft web server (such as Apache), you must set up a virtual directory.

  2. In the Home field, confirm the path of your home directory and click on the Next button.

    Home Directory

8. Choose the Install Directory

After specifying a home directory, you must choose an install (or destination) directory.

  1. Choose Destination Location

In the Choose Destination Location window, click the Browse button to select an install (destination) directory.

The default setting is C:\InetPub\scripts\s360. You may choose to accept it.

  2. When done, click the Next button.

9. Installation of Share360 applications

In the 'Setup Type' dialog box, you are asked to choose which suite of Share360 applications you want to install.

  1. Share360 contains all applications in one file. If you roll your mouse over each installation type (Custom, Share360 Complete or Share360 Standard) listed, you will see a description of the applications included in each. We recommend that you choose either Custom or Share360 Complete in order to try all applications.

    Setup Type

If you want to disable certain applications after installation, you can do so by changing the Application Activation settings in the General sub-menu of the Admin Tools menu on the Share360 Home Page. For details, see Module Activation Setting.

10. Selecting Individual Share360 Applications to Install

If you chose Custom on the previous screen, you will be prompted to select individual Share360 applications to install.

  1. Check the boxes of the applications that you want to install, and click the Next button.

    Select Components

Once again, we recommend that you select Share360 Complete on the previous screen to try the full suite of integrated applications. You can always disable individual applications after installation.

11. Confirm Your Share360 Installation Selections

In this window, simply review what you have chosen.

  1. Please confirm the Share360 applications you selected in the previous steps. If you want to make a change, click the Back button to return to previous settings and to make any necessary changes.

    • For example (with IP address): http://10.0.0.1/scripts/s360/office.exe?
    • For example (with name): http://bozuman.co.jp/scripts/s360/office.exe?

If you succeeded in accessing Share360, you will see the login page. This is the access page for all users, as this is the entry page to use Share360!

  2. If you cannot see the login page, check the following:

    • Misspellings of the server host name, the directory path, or the file name.
    • Be sure that the install directory you specified was a CGI executable directory.

Try the URL again to see if you can see the login page.

  3. If you did not install Share360 in the default directory of C:\InetPub\scripts\s360, you may not be able to access the login page from the URL above.

Please read about the virtual directory to confirm settings.
