Installation Problems
Also see our Installation Troubleshooting section
If you have a standard Windows XP installation, IIS will not be installed. A web server is needed to run Share360, so you have two options:
- Install IIS
- Use the Cybozu Web Server
If you choose to install IIS, follow these instructions
1) Deactivate "Simple File Sharing"
- Go to Start menu --> Accessories --> Windows Explorer.
- From the Menu Bar, select [Tool] --> [Folder Options].
- Click View tag.
- Remove the check in the box next to [Use simple file sharing (recommended)]
2) Share scripts files
- At the C:\Inetput\Scripts folder, right-click [Properties].
- Click the Web Sharing tab.
- Move the check mark to Share this folder.
- Edit Alias screen will be displayed.
- At Application Permissions, check Executable includes scripts.
3) Change permissions of Set Scripts Directory
- At the C:\Inetput\Scripts folder, right-click [Properties].
- Click the [Security] tab.
- Click the [Add] button.
- At the Group and User Names column, enter [everyone] and then click [ok].
- Check [Full Control] for Everyone's permissions.
4) Permit IIS Anonymous Access
- Go to Start Menu --> Setting --> Administration Tools --> Internet Information Service.
- Under Web Site, click Open Default Web site.
- Right-click on Scripts and select [Properties].
- Click the [Directory Security] tab.
- Click [Edit] button for Anonymous Access and Authentication Control.
- Check Anonymous Access.
IIS on Windows 2000/XP professional has a restriction on the TCP connection. It only allows 10 connections at the same time.
Because accessing a single web page may use more than one connection (since the web browser may try to get HTML, images, frame-HTML on different sessions), if some users access the server on Windows 2000/XP Pro, they may not be able to connect.
To avoid this, you can take the following precautions:
- Change IIS on 2000/XP Pro to a different web server like Apache. Apache does not limit the number of connections. Cybozu Web Server also does not have a limitation, but it is less scalable than Apache.
- Change the OS from Professional to 2000 server (XP does not have server)
- Change the OS to a different OS
This problem is caused by Windows 2000/XP Pro's restriction, so it is not a Share360 problem; any CGI/ASP, and even static web pages on IIS, have the same problem.
Try to input the IP address directly in the URL instead of the server name.
If you are using WINS (Windows Internet Name Service), you may get the error above. If you get this error, please input the IP address instead of the host name of the server you are trying to access to use Share360. (http://123.45.67.89/scripts/s360/office.exe?)
Confirm whether the browser you are using is an older version.
We have confirmed that Share360 runs on Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape Navigator 4.0, but we recommend newer versions of the browsers.
Share360 can be accessed from a Macintosh if the server and client PC are connected over the TCP/IP network.
If you are not able to access Share360 from a Macintosh, the problem may be that the server name that is used for a Windows-specific naming system may be used for accessing purposes. In accessing from a Macintosh, please enter the IP address of the server on which Share360 is installed.
For example, if the IP address of the server running Share360 is 10.0.0.1, use the following to access Share360:
- http://10.0.0.1/scripts/s360/office.exe? (if the server is Windows-based)
- http://10.0.0.1/cgi-bin/s360/office.cgi? (if the server is Linux-based)
If all PCs are able to use the DNS name solution system, all PCs can be accessed by the same URL address. For details, please contact your network administrator.
We recommend Netscape Navigator as a browser on a Macintosh. We have confirmed that Internet Explorer for Macintosh Version sometimes does not work properly.
This may happen if "office.exe" (data file) does not have "execute" permissions. Please confirm the setting.
In IIS4, open the Microsoft Managing Console, right-click the virtual directory, which is set, and select a property. Check Execute (Include Script) for access permission.
If your browser is not set up to display the latest information, updated information may not be displayed in the browser. Please change the browser setting as follows:
Netscape Communicator 4.0X
- Select Edit => Preferences => Advanced => Cache.
- Select Once per session in the "Document in cache is compared to document on network" field.
Internet Explorer 4.0X
- Select Display => Internet Option => General.
- Click the Setting button in Temporary Internet files.
Internet Explorer5 .0X
- Select Tools => Internet Options => General.
- Click the Settings button in Temporary Internet files.
- Select Every visit to the page in the "Check for newer versions of stored pages:" field.
If your old data is displayed properly, the Web server and CGI are working well, but you may not have write permission. Please check your Web server permission setting on the virtual directory. In the initial settings, the full path to each directory should be set as follows:
- Home Directory: C:\InetPub\wwwroot
- Virtual Directory: C:\InetPub\scripts
You can confirm each access permission as follows:
- From Internet Service Manager, open the www Service Properties dialogue box.
- Read and Execute should be checked at Access for Home Directory and Virtual Directory.
- Go to Exploring, right-click Home Directory and Virtual Directory, and open Properties.....
- Make Permissions in the Security tab Everyone with Full Control.
- If it is not possible to set up "Everyone with Full Control," assign Full Control to IUSR_(machine name), which is an account for anonymous Internet access.
If you access Share360 through a proxy server, you may not be using it properly. Please set up your browser to access the server running Share360.
Netscape Communicator 4.0
- Select Edit => Preferences
- Select Advanced => Proxies, and check Manual proxy configuration.
- Click the View button, input the IP address of the server or the name of server in the Do not use proxy servers for domains beginning with: field, then click the OK button.
Internet Explorer 4.0
- Select Tools => Internet Option => Connect
- Check the Do not use Proxy for local address box
- Click the Detail button, input the IP address of the server or the name of the server in the Do not use Proxy for addresses starting the following field, then click OK.
- In accessing the browser after setting a change, if "Intranet Zone" is displayed at the lower right, the setting is valid.
Internet Explorer 5.0
- Select Tools => Internet Options => Connections.
- Click LAN Settings.
- Leave Automatically detect settings unchecked.
- Check the Bypass proxy server for local addresses radio button.
- Click the Advancedradio button, input the IP address of the server or the name of the server in the Do not use proxy server for addresses beginning with: field, then click the OK button.
- In accessing the browser after setting a change, if "Intranet Zone" is displayed at the lower right, the setting is valid.
The root cause of this problem could be one of the following:
- [1] Image files do not exist.
- [2] You specified the wrong document root directory at the time of installation.
- [3] There are permission problems with the image files.
How to solve
For [1] and [2]: Be sure the icons and images of Share360 are installed in the "s360" directory under the document root directory with the default install option.
- Please check if the document root directory you specified in installing Share360 is correct.
- Please confirm if the "s360" directory exists under the document root and Share360 images (i.e., office4.gif, etc.) are included.
How to check the document root directly in Share360.
- From the Home Page of Share360, click Admin Tools at the bottom of the page. Then, click General >Environment Variable. If you have not logged in as administrator, log in with password when prompted.
- Check the value of the document root. Start the installation process again, enter the address of the document root for the document root directory of Share360.
For [3]: If access permission is not given, even if the images exist under a document root directory, the images cannot be browsed. Please check the access permission of "/s360" under the document root and the permission of the image files.
The root cause might be as follows:
- [1] Image files are nonexistent.
- [2] Home directory setting is incorrect.
- [3] There is an access permission problem with image files.
Troubleshooting:
For [1] and [2]: Be sure icon and image files for Share360 are included in the home directory.
- Please confirm that the "s360" directory exists under the document root and Share360 images (i.e., share360.gif, etc.) are included.
- From the Home Page of Share360, click Admin Tools (in footer) > General > Environment Variables. [ If you cannot follow this path (which may be difficult without seeing the images) you can add the following to your url to see the results: ?page=OfficeEnv which will make your url something like: http://YourHostName/scripts/s360/office.exe?page=OfficeEnv ]
- Check the address of the Document Root. Start the installation process again, and enter the address of the Document Root for the document root directory of Share360.
For [3]: If access permission is not given, even if the images exist under the document root directory, the images cannot be seen. Please check the access permission of "/s360" under the document root, and check the permission of the image files.
- Right-click the folder or the file that you want to check. => Open Properties.
- Click the Security tab.
- Click Permissions and check if User [IUSR_XXXX] has "Specific File/Directory Access (RWD)".
The root cause might be that the data was not transferred completely. This is a problem in transferring data between the Web server and browser, not in Share360. Please check if your situation corresponds to the following:
Other applications are operating on the server.
- Server operation speed may slow down because other applications are operating. (For example, a database or antivirus application may be operating on the server running Share360.)
- We recommend that you operate Share360 on a dedicated server.
Some applications are running on a client PC.
- An application such as an antivirus software may be running on the client machine.
- If you are using an antivirus application on your client PC, please refer to the manual of that application.
You access the Web server through a proxy server.
- You may have some problems if you access the Web server running Share360 through a proxy server.
- Please access directly to the server running Share360.
You use Windows 98 as a server.
If you run Share360 continuously on a Windows 98 server, we have confirmed that Share360 may not run properly. Because Windows 98 is a OS developed for stand-alone operation and does not have required features for a server OS, we do not recommend you use Windows 98 as a server OS.
In the operation below, you may use Windows 98 if you do the following:
- Do not run the server continuously.
- Turn on/off Windows 98 server every day.
Note: We do not guarantee stable operation if the above is not true. We recommend you use a server OS for more stability.
Please refer to the System Requirements of Share360.
You use WindowsNT WorkStation as a server.
- If the Cannot display the page or Too much access to Web site errors appear, the root cause might be the limitation of the number of uses to simultaneous access the system.
- We recommend you use Share360 on a Windows NT server or UNIX. Please refer to the System Requirements for Share360.
The version of Internet Explorer is before 5.00.2614.3400.
- When you access the Microsoft Web site, you may get the following message - Web page used on CGI cannot be browsed properly.
- You can update to the latest version of Internet Explorer from the Microsoft Web site. For details, contact Microsoft.
The root cause of a PC automatically starting a dial-up connection is that the dial-up router is set to dial up automatically whenever the browser is opened. Please set up the dial-up router not to dial up for an IP address within an intranet. For detailed set up instructions, refer to the manual for the dial-up router.
Check your browser setting to determine if auto-dialup starts even if the dial-up router is set up as stipulated above.
With Internet Explorer:
- Select Tools.
- Select Internet Options.
- Select Connections.
- At Dialup Settings, set up as follows:
- "Never dial a connection" - leave blank
- "Dial whenever a network connection is not present" - check X
- "Always dial my default connection" - check X
Your PC may open a dial-up connection at the login after you access Share360 Home Page. If your mail server exists outside the company and you use WebMail, your PC may dial up automatically upon login. We recommend you launch the mail server within your company.
