System Requirements manual

1. System Requirements for Office 4

Before you install, you need make sure you have an adequate system to run Office 4.

  1. Required Environments for Cybozu Office 4

    • A server OS (Win, Linux) that is equipped with a TCP/IP networking and a static IP address - Windows, Linux.
    • Web Server - IIS, Apache etc. Each user will access the server from client PCs on a network and will use Cybozu Office 4.
    • Client PCs, equipped with Web browsers. Client PCs only need browsers (Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, etc.). Therefore, you can use Cybozu Office 4 in an environment where different OS like Windows, Mac, UNIX etc. coexist.

Those are the basics. For more detailed information, see below:

  2. Server OS

    Windows

Operative only on IBM PC-AT machines with an Intel or an Intel-compatible CPU.

    • Windows 2000 Professional
    • Windows 2000 Server
    • Windows NT Workstation 4.0
    • Windows NT Server 4.0
    • Windows 98

    Linux

Linux 2.X (Operative only on hardware with an Intel or an Intel-compatible CPU) *.

We recommend the following distribution for Linux:

    • Red Hat Linux
    • Linux Mandrake
    • SuSE Linux
    • Turbo Linux

    * Linux 2.X version is operative only on IBM PC-AT machines with an Intel or an Intel-compatible CPU and is not on Cobalt Qube products with MIPS CPU. (Cobalt Qube 3 is fully supported.) Before using it, please confirm your operation environment.

  3. Web Server

You need to install a web server on the server machine to use Cybozu Office 4.

    Windows

    Linux

    • Apache 1.1 or later

    * For detailed specifications, installation settings and operations for Web servers, please ask each manufacturer.

  4. Client PCs: Web browser environments

Cybozu Office 4 should only be installed on a server machine; you do not need to and should not install anything on client PCs, expect for a browser.

Cybozu Office 4 can be accessed properly using the following browsers.

    • Internet Explorer 4.0 or later
    • Netscape Navigator 3.x
    • Netscape Navigator 4.x

    Notes:

With Netscape Navigator 6.0, there may be a case that graphic files on Cybozu Office do not display properly. We recommend Netscape Navigator 3.X/4.X instead.

    Use Netscape Navigator for Macintosh.

  5. Server/Hardware Environments

    CPU CPU:
Windows: Intel Pentium 90 MHz or faster*
Linux: Intel Pentium 90 MHz or faster*

*Windows and Linux versions are operative only on IBM PC-AT machines with an Intel or an Intel-compatible CPU and is not on Cobalt Qube products with MIPS CPU. (Cobalt Qube 3 is fully supported.) Before using it, please confirm your operation environment
Memory Recommended: 64 M byte or more
    Minimum: 32 M byte

    [A guideline for comfortable operations]
50 users version: 64 Mbytes or more
100 users version: 128 Mbytes or more

    * 'Cause Windows 98 is not designed to serve as a server, there may be a case that you cannot operate it properly.
In case of an operation with a small number of users and a small number of transactions, where you will shut down Win 98 everyday, it may be operative, but we cannot guarantee its stable operation.
We highly recommend to use with Win NT4.0/2000 or LINUX
Hard Disk capacity Recommended: 50 M byte or more
    Minimum: 10 M byte

In case of using the File Attachment feature for Bulletin Board 4, WebMail 4, Forum 4, Cabinet 4,Circulation 4 & Web Forms 4, it will heavily depend on the size of attachment files.

    * In case of using WebMail 4, you will need additional 1 M x number of users.
    Others Use IBM PC-AT machines.
In case of an operation with over 100 users, prepare a dedicated server machine with SCSI disk.

  6. Guidelines for speed and stability

Cybozu office 4 can be operated on several kinds of servers, but we recommend that you select the best OS according to your operation needs. The following lists basic guidelines:

    • NTW 4.0 - Windows NT Workstation 4.0
    • NTS 4.0 - Windows NT Server 4.0
    • 2000P - Windows 2000 Professional
    • 2000S - Windows 2000 Server
    • Linux - Linux

The above evaluation is based on a presumption that it will be used on an Intranet environment.

In case of 300 or more users, we recommend server clustering to reduce network and server load.

Note: Because Windows 98 is not designed to serve as a server, it may not operate properly. In case of an operation with a small number of users and a small number of transactions, where you shut down Win 98 everyday, it may be operative, but we cannot guarantee its stable operation. We highly recommend you use Win NT4.0/2000 or LINUX.

The above Hard Disk and Memory capacities are for reference purpose only and are not guaranteed.

If you have 100 users or more, in addition to the above guidelines, you should use a dedicated server machine with a SCSI disk.

If you use WebMail, the hard disk capacity will need to be monitored. For example, if one user sends/receives 10 text-only emails per day, 2M per month will be consumed.

If there are emails with attachment files, more hard disk space will be consumed. Users can attach files in Bulletin Board, Project, Forum, Cabinet, Circulation, Web Forms.
