Starting the Installation for Sync 4

The following chapters guide you step-by-step through your initial Sync 4 installation. When completed, you'll be able to sync Scheduler, Bulletin Board, WebMail, Address Book and ToDo List.

1. System Requirements for Sync 4

The system requirements for Sync 4 are as follows:

  1. Before installation, please prepare the following operation environment.

    • Make sure Cybozu Office 4 works properly.
    • Install the Palm Desktop Software on your PC.
    • You can install Palm Desktop from the CD-ROM your received with your Palm OS handheld organizer.
    • Please refer to the Paln OS handheld manual.

    If you have already installed the Palm Desktop Software, you should see the icon of HotSync Manager as follows.

    To connect a client PC to the cradle, you need Windows98/2000/NT 4.0 installed.

  2. Cybozu Sync 4 is compatible with PalmOS 3.1 or later versions.

    We have confirmed the following handhelds can synchronize with Cybozu Office 4 properly.

    Others

    You need to install Palm Desktop Software before installing Share360TM Sync for Palm OS®. For installation, please refer to the manual attached to Palm OS handheld organizer.

    HotSync® Manager needs to work properly.

    HotSync(R) is a registered patent of Palm Computing, Inc.

    Server

    To make sure Cybozu Office 4 works properly, please try to use the latest version of Cybozu Office 4.

    Important Notice: Cybozu Sync 4 does not support SSL.

2. Download and Install Sync 4

To download and install Sync 4, follow these steps:

  1. Download the Sync 4 Setup program from our Office 4 Download Center.

    If you have already installed Sync 3, please uninstall it first.

  2. After downloading the file, double-click it, and start the Setup program. To proceed further, you must accept the User License Agreement.

  3. Select a destination folder.

  4. Specify the folder where your Palm Desktop Software is installed as the destination folder for Sync 4. In the default settings, it is C:\Palm.

3. Register Sync 4 to HotSync Manager

To register Sync 4 to the HotSync Manager so that you can synchronize Office 4 applications, follow these steps:

  1. After completing the Setup program, you will see the Sync 4 Registration Tool dialog box. Here you can register Sync 4 to HotSync Manager.

  2. Check the boxes of the Office 4 applications you want to synchronize, and then click the OK button.

4. Uninstall and Update Sync 4

To uninstall and update Sync 4, follow these steps:

  1. How to uninstall

    To uninstall Sync 4, select the Cybozu Sync 4 Uninstall from the Cybozu Sync 4 folder under the Start menu. Optionally, you can remove Sync 4 from the Add/Remove Programs option in the Windows Control Panel.

  2. Updating from Sync 3 to Sync 4

    You need to uninstall the old Sync 3 version first. After uninstalling it, install the new version.

  3. Procedure

    [1] Uninstall Sync 3.

    • Choose Start > Cybozu Sync 3 > Cybozu Sync 3 Uninstall.

    [2] Install Sync 4.

    • Download Sync 4 and install it.

    [3] Set up the registration code for Sync 4.

    The page to enter the registration code has changed from Sync 3.

    [4] Apply the basic settings.

    • You need to set up a URL, user name, password, and conduit for Sync 4 again.
    • For details, please refer to the Sync 4 manual.

  4. From Sync 4, the default settings of the sync time period have changed.

    • The default settings of Sync 3 is "3 Month ago - after 1 year."
    • The default settings of Sync 4 is "1 Month ago - 3 Month after."

    If you want to use the previous data, please change the time period setting first.

    The schedule data that is out of the time period specified here will be deleted from the handheld when you first synchronize with Office 4.
