Starting the Installation for Office 4 (UNIX)

The following chapters will guide you step-by-step through your initial Office 4 for UNIX installation. When completed, you should be up and running, and ready to experience the benefits of Office 4.

1. System Requirements for Office 4 (UNIX)

If you are not familiar with the UNIX shell command or not confident working in the command line mode, please refer to the other resources for the shell commands used during the installation of Office 4 for Linux. Or please consult your system administrator for the installation.

Cybozu Office 4 is an archive (a product) which is downloaded from the Cybozu Web page and is installed on your server. Because it is accessed by client PCs through browsers, users will just enter the URL to browse/register Cybozu Office 4 like they browse internet sites, as long as they are on your network.

  1. Required Environments for Cybozu Office 4

    A server OS (Win, Linux) that is equipped with a TCP/IP networking and a static IP address.

    Web Server - Apache is recommended. Each user will access the server from client PCs on a network to use Cybozu Office 4.

    Client PCs, equipped with Web browsers. Client PCs only need browsers (Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator etc.). Therefore, you can use Cybozu Office 4 in an environment where different OS like Win, Mac, UNIX etc. co-exist.

  2. Server OS

    Linux 2.X (Operative only on hardware with an Intel or an Intel-compatible CPU)

    We recommend the following distribution for Linux:

    • Red Hat Linux
    • Linux Mandrake
    • SuSE Linux
    • Turbo Linux

    Note: Linux 2.X version is operative only on IBM PC-AT machines with an Intel or an Intel-compatible CPU and is not on Cobalt Qube products with MIPS CPU. (Cobalt Qube 3 is fully supported.) Before using it, please confirm your operation environment.

  3. Web Server

    You need to install Apache 1.1 or later on the server machine you will use for Cybozu Office 4.

  4. Client PCs: Web browser environments

    Cybozu Office 4 should only be installed on a server machine; you do not need to and should not install anything on client PCs, expect for a browser.

    Cybozu Office 4 can be accessed properly with the following browsers.

    • Internet Explorer 4.0 or later
    • Netscape Navigator 3.x
    • Netscape Navigator 4.x

    Notes:

    With Netscape Navigator 6.0, graphic files on Cybozu Office may not display properly. We recommend Netscape Navigator 3.X/4.X.

    Use Netscape Navigator for Macintosh.

2. Uncompress the Archives

To uncompress the archives, follow these steps:

  1. Become a superuser.

    First, switch to the "root "user with the su command. (Put "-")

    > su -

  2. Place the file you downloaded on the server's local disk, wherever it is convenient for you.

    In the example with /tmp, we assume you placed the downloaded file to /tmp.

    The name of the downloaded file should be the following: cbof40jal.tar.gz (Linux Version)

    Copy the downloaded file to "/tmp" (Linux Version)
    # cp cbof40jal.tar.gz /tmp

    Change directory to /tmp
    # cd /tmp

  3. Uncompress the downloaded file

    Uncompress the downloaded file with GNU tar or the gzip and tar commands.

    i) With GNU-version of tar command (For Linux)
    # tar zxvf cbof40jal.tar.gz

    ii) With gzip and tar command (For Linux and FreeBSD)
    # gzip -cd cbof40jal.tar.gz | tar xvf -

    Then, three files, README, cb4setup, and cb4INSTALL.txt, and the directory, cb4tmp will be created.

    With the "ls -l" command, check if you have correct files and directory.

    # ls -l

3. Run the Setup Program

To run the Office 4 Setup program in UNIX, follow these steps:

  1. Run the Office 4 Setup program in the directory where the directory and files you created in Step 2. are located.

    Run cb4setup in the directory where you've extracted the archive.

    # ./cb4setup

  2. Office 4 Setup Program

    Please read the User License Agreement and the README file carefully before using the Cybozu software.

    • Press Enter.
    • If the Setup program asks you the name of the web server process owner, please refer to this FAQ in the FAQ section.

    ======= Entering the user name of the web server process owner =======

    Enter the user name of the web server process owner, and press Enter. (Normally, it is "nobody".)

    (Q: Quit)

4. Set Up the Document Root Directory

To set up the document root directory, follow these steps:

  1. You are prompted to specify the Web server document root directory. Office 4 will create the directory, cb4, under the document root directory. You must specify the directory that will be the Web server root URL.

    Are you sure that the specified directory is configured as a document root directory?
    [Y]: Yes / N: Select a different directory / Q: Quit :

  2. Enter the absolute path of the document root directory you specify.

    If you choose to change the install directory, you need to press N(n) in the Confirmation of the Document Root Directory step and set up the document root directory manually.

    Specify the document root directory, and press Enter.
    (Q: Quit)

  3. If the specified directory does not exist, the Setup program displays an error message and goes back to the Specify the Document Root Directory step.

    The specified directory is invalid. Check the directory, and specify the right one.

5. Change the Install Directory

To change the install directory of Office 4, follow these steps:

  1. You are prompted to specify the install directory of Office 4. Office 4 will create the directory, cb4, under the specified directory and copy all applications onto the directory. So you must specify a CGI-executable directory here.

    To install the files in this directory, press Y or Enter.
    To install the files in a different directory, Press N.
    [Y]: Yes / N: Select a different directory / Q: Quit :

  2. If you choose to change the install directory, you must press N(n) in the Confirmation of the Install Directory step and set up the install directory of Office 4 manually.

    We highly recommend that you set up (cgi executable directory)/cb4 as the install directory of Office 4.

    ============== Specify the Install Directory ===============

    Specify the install directory, and press Enter.

    (Q: Quit)

    Install Directory:

  3. Enter the absolute path of the install directory you specify.

    If the specified directory does not exist, the Setup program will ask you to create it.

    The specified directory does not exist. Would you like to create the new directory?
    Y: Create the directory / N: Select a different directory :

  4. If you want to create the specified directory as the install directory, press Y(y) and then Enter.

    If the Setup program fails to create it, it displays an error message and goes back to the Specify the Install Directory step. Under the following condition, you may fail to create the directory:

    You will see the following if the parent directory of the specified directory does not exist.

    Failed to create the directory. Check the directory path, and specify the right one.

    If it failed to create the directory, the above is shown and goes to the page to enter the install directory.

6. Select Applications

To select applications to use, follow these steps:

    Enter the product number (1-15) to install, and press Enter.
    Product Number (1-15) / Enter: End of Selection / Q: Quit :

  2. Enter the product number(1-15) to install, and press Enter.

    Note that Project 4 is not bundled in Office 4.

    Example of the Application Selection Status:

    (In case pack products are selected)

  3. After determining the package or the application(s) to install, press Enter.

7. Confirm Your Selections

To confirm your selections in setting up Office 4 for UNIX, follow these steps:

  1. Installation settings are displayed.

    Document Root Directory: /home/httpd/html

    Install Directory: /home/httpd/cgi-bin/cb4

    The following application(s) will be installed.

    All Applications of Cybozu Office 4

    Enter Y to start installing the above application(s).
    Y: Install the applications / N: Back to Selection of the Applications / Q: Quit:

  2. If you approve of the settings, press Yes (y) + Enter Key and start the installation. If you press No (n) + Enter Key, you will go back to the Selecting Applications step.

    This will start the installation and lead you to the following messages:

    Creating directories...
    Copying the program files...
    Copying the image files...
    Copying the module files...
    Copying the template files for the backup...
    Copying the template files...
    Copying the data files...
    Changing the directory permissions...

8. Finish Installation

When the installation is complete, to find the directory where LICENSE and README are stored, follow these steps:

  1. For example, select /home/httpd/cgi-bin/cb4 for an install directory.

    The installation of Cybozu Office 4 is completed.
    Please read the License Agreement and the README file carefully before using the software.

    LICENSE: /home/httpd/cgi-bin/cb4/LICENSE
    README : /home/httpd/cgi-bin/cb4/README

9. Confirm That It Works

To confirm that the operation was successful, follow these steps:

  1. Please read the README file again.

    You will see README and LICENSE stored in the install directory. Please read them again.

  2. Access from your PC.

    Start a web browser and access the following URL:

    • http://(server hostname or IP address)/cgi-bin/cb4/office.cgi?
    • For example (with IP address): 1) http://10.0.0.1/cgi-bin/cb4/office.cgi?
    • For example (with hostname): 2) http://bozuman.cybozu.co.jp/cgi-bin/cb4/office.cgi?

  3. You will access the Login page. This is the URL you will give to all users, as this is the entry page for Cybozu Office 4!.

    If you succeed in accessing to Office 4, you will see the Login page. Please click the System Setting icon for the initial settings.

    If you cannot see the Login page properly, check the following:

    • There may be spelling mistakes of the server hostname, the directory path, or the file name.
    • The install directory you specified was not the CGI executable directory.

10. Apply Basic Settings

To apply the initial settings required to run Office 4 for UNIX, follow these steps:

  1. On the Login page of Office 4, please apply the basic settings referred to at Basic Setting After Installation.

  2. Enjoy the speed and the power of Cybozu Office 4!

11. Add Applications

To add or change the applications for UNIX, follow these steps:

  1. You can add or change the applications to use in Office 4 for UNIX in System Setting > Module Activation. For example, you can perform the following functions:

    • Use applications of Cybozu Office Pack EX 4 although you just tried Scheduler 4.
    • Add Web Forms at a later time.

12. Uninstall Office 4

To uninstall Office 4 from UNIX (Linux), follow these steps.

  1. When you installed Office 4, it wrote to two directories.

    1) Document Root - /var/www/html/share360

    • Delete this completely.

    2) Where the cgi-bin is located - usually /var/www/cgi-bin/share360

    • Delete except for the file and data directories, which should be saved if you ever want to use Office 4 in the future.
    • Alternatively, you can export all the data to a different format and then delete the whole directory.
