Secondly, plesae confirm that you have installed correctly referring to the Install Guide (Windows Version).

When I try to log in to Office 4, "Cannot find the object" is displayed.

Try to input the IP address directly.

If you are using WINS (Windows Internet Name Service), you may get the error above. If you get this error, please input the IP address instead of the host name of the server you are trying to access to use Office 4. (http://123.45.67.89/scripts/cb4/office.exe?)

Confirm whether the browser you are using is an older version.

We have confirmed that Office 4 runs on Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape Navigator 3.0. If you are using older versions, please update the version of your browser.

Can I access Office 4 from a Macintosh?

Office 4 can be accessed from a Macintosh if the server and client PC are connected over the TCP/IP network.

If you are not able to access Office 4 from a Macintosh, the problem may be that the server name that is used for a Windows-specific naming system may be used for accessing purposes. In accessing from a Macintosh, please enter the IP address of the server in which Office 4 is installed.

For example, if the IP address of the server running Office 4 is 10.0.0.1, use the following to access Office 4:

If all PCs are able to use the DNS name solution system, all PCs can be accessed by the same URL address. For details, please contact your network administrator.

We recommend Netscape Navigator as a browser on a Macintosh. We have confirmed that Internet Explorer for Macintosh Version sometimes does not work properly.

Q:When trying to access Office 4, file download data is displayed, but I cannot use Office 4.

The reason why file download data may be displayed in accessing Office 4 is because "office.exe" does not have "execute" permissions. Please confirm the setting.

In IIS4, open the Microsoft Managing Console, right-click the virtual directory, which is set, and select a property. Check Execute (Include Script) for access permission.

I don't see my latest information (i.e. updated schedule ) without clicking "refresh".

If your browser is not set up to display the latest information, updated information may not be displayed in the browser. Please change the browser setting as follows:

Netscape Communicator 4.0X

Internet Explorer 4.0X

Internet Explorer5 .0X

I cannot register new data (i.e. new schedules, bulletin boards, etc.).

If your old data is displayed properly, the Web server and CGI are working well, but you may not have write permission. Please check your Web server permission setting on the virtual directory. In the initial settings, the full path to each directory should be set as follows:

You can confirm each access permission as follows:

Data will not update in Office 4. For instance, I cannot register schedules, post information or add users.

If you access Office 4 through a proxy server, you may not be using it properly. Please set up your browser to access the server running Office 4.

Netscape Communicator 4.0

Internet Explorer 4.0

Internet Explorer 5.0

Icons or images are not displayed. (For UNIX)

The root cause of this problem could be one of the following:

How to solve

For [1] and [2]: Be sure the icons and images of Office 4 are installed in the "cb4" directory under the document root directory with the default install option.

How to check the document root directly in Office 4.

For [3]: If access permission is not given, even if the images exist under a document root directory, the images are not browsed. Please check the access permission of "/cb4" under the document root and the permission of the image files.

Icons or images do not show up. (For Windows)

The root cause might be as follows:

How to solve

For [1] and [2]: Be sure icon and image files for Office 4 are included in the home directory.

For [3]: If access permission is not given, even if the images exist under the document root directory, the images cannot be seen. Please check the access permission of "/cb4" under the document root, and check the permission of the image files.

The source code is displayed on the screen.

The root cause might be because the data was not transferred completely. This is a problem in transferring data between the web server and browser, not in Office 4. Please check if your situation corresponds to the following:

Other applications are operating on the server.

Some applications are running on a client PC.

You access the web server through a proxy server.

You use Windows 98 as a server.

If you run Office 4 continuously on a Windows 98 server, we have confirmed that Office 4 may not run properly. Because Windows 98 is a OS developed for stand-alone operation and does not have required features for a server OS, we do not recommend you use Windows 98 as a server OS.

In the operation below, you may use Windows 98 if you do the following:

Note: We do not guarantee stable operation if the above is not true. We recommend you use a server OS for more stability.

Please refer to the System Requirements of Office 4.

You use WindowsNT WorkStation as a server.

The version of Internet Explorer is before 5.00.2614.3400.

In opening Office 4, my PC starts a dial-up connection.

If you install and use Office 4 on the server within your intranet environment, do not use the Internet. You can change settings on your Browser Setting or Dialup Router Setting.

The root cause of a PC automatically starting a dial-up connection is that the dial-up router is set to dial up automatically whenever the browser is opened. Please set up the dial-up router not to dial up for an IP address within an intranet. For detailed set up instructions, refer to the manual for the dial-up router.

Check your browser setting to determine if auto-dialup starts even if the dial-up router is set up as stipulated above.

With Internet Explorer:

Your PC may open a dial-up connection at the login after you access the Office 4 Portal. If your mail server exists outside the company and you use WebMail 4, your PC may dial up automatically upon login. We recommend you launch the mail server within your company.
