Before Installation
You may be using Internet Explorer 3.X.
We have confirmed that Office 4 runs properly with Internet Explorer 4.0 or a later version and Netscape Navigator 3.0 or a later version. Please update the version of your browser to use Office 4 properly.
- Office 4 uses the file upload function of browsers to attach files.
- The Browse button does not show up when you use Internet Explorer 3.0X because it does not have an uploading function.
If you install multiple Office products/applications in the same directory, please use the same version and the same number of users for all products/applications. However, the exact same application cannot be installed in the same directory, even with the same version and the same number of users.
If you use different versions or applications with a different number of users, please use different directories. In this situation, the applications installed in different directories cannot be synchronized or merged.
If you install archives of Cybozu Office Japanese version and English version in the same directory, the data may not be reflected to both properly. We do not support any troubleshooting caused by this situation. Please use separate install directories.
Office 4 does not support data replication, synchronization, or mirroring for several servers running Office 4.
You can change servers, server OS's, and Web servers running Office 4 without informing Cybozu. Also, you don't need to take additional steps or pay any extra fees. Office can be used on Windows98/NT/2000, Solaris, or Linux.
Office 4 can be used over any TCP/IP based network, even over the Internet.
In addition, if you set up the remote access server on the Internet, allowing you to access the intranet server running Office 4, you can access to it from outside your office.
However, please be aware of the following issues before you decide to use Office 4 under the above situations:
- Security When you set up the server running Office 4 on the Internet, or access the internal server running Office 4 from outside a LAN through remote access servers, you are always exposing yourself to a security risk. Others may sneak into the server to browse or steal your proprietary information.
- Accordingly, we do not recommend or support the use of Office 4 over the Internet or through a remote access server. Cybozu will not be responsible for any damages or loss caused by a non-LAN-based use of Office 4 under any circumstances. If you are interested in using Office 4 outside of the LAN, we recommend you talk to system consultants or network security companies to develop the safest system environment you can have.
- Lower Performance Office 4 has been designed to be used mainly over the LAN, not outside of it. Accordingly, when you use or access Office 4 from outside of the LAN, you may see its performance dropping and its response speed getting slower.
The following is the list of server OS's that Office currently supports:
Windows
- Windows 2000 Professional
- Windows 2000 Server
- Windows NT Workstation 4.0
- Windows NT Server 4.0
- Windows 98
UNIX
- Linux 2.x
- FreeBSD 2.x/3.x
- Solaris 2.5.1/2.6/7 (SPARC ver.)
We do not recommend you use Windows 98 as server OS because Windows 98 was not been developed to be used continuously. If you use Office for a small number of users, use it infrequently, or turn off Windows 98 every day, it can be used. However, we cannot guarantee stable operation of Office 4. If you currently use Windows 98, we advise you to operate Office 4 in another server OS, such as Windows 2000, Windows NT, or UNIX for better performance and more stability.
Although Windows 98 was not developed to be used continuously, if you use Office for a small number of users, use it infrequently, or turn off Windows 98 every day, Office 4 should work fine on Windows 98.
However, we cannot guarantee a stable operation of Office. You may experience slow speed or server freezes. If you currently use Windows 98, we advise you to operate Office 4 on another server OS, such as Windows 2000, Windows NT, or UNIX for better performance and more stability.
Office 4 can be accessed from a Macintosh if the server and client PC are connected over the TCP/IP network.
If you are not able to access Office 4 from a Macintosh, the problem may be that the server name that is used for a Windows-specific naming system may be used for accessing purposes. In accessing from a Macintosh, please enter the IP address of the server in which Office 4 is installed.
For example, if the IP address of the server running Office 4 is 10.0.0.1, use the following to access Office 4:
- http://10.0.0.1/scripts/cb4/office.exe? (if the server is Windows-based)
- http://10.0.0.1/cgi-bin/cb4/office.cgi? (if the server is Linux-based)
If all PCs are able to use the DNS name solution system, all PCs can be accessed by the same URL address. For details, please contact your network administrator.
We recommend Netscape Navigator as a browser on a Macintosh. We have confirmed that Internet Explorer for Macintosh Version sometimes does not work properly.
We offer Sync 4 as a line product.
Office Sync 4 can also be used on a free 60-day trial basis. Please try it. For more details, please refer the the download section of this site.
Sync 4 cannot be synchronized with a previous Office version (i.e., Office 2 or 3). Sync 4 must be used with Office 4 to work properly.
Currently, specific Palm devices can be used for synchronization with Office 4. If you have any requests regarding your Palm device, please let us know by emailing einquiry@cybozu.com
The data used in Office 4 cannot be converted to Office 3. Likewise, the data in Office 4 and Office 3 cannot be merged. If you have downloaded Office 4 to try its features, we recommend you install it in a different directory (or a different server machine) from the directory for Office 3. If you purchase Office 4, you can easily migrate your data from Office 3 to Office 4, but not visa versa.
What if you will use a groupware with thousands of users on a single server machine? Won't many unknown and unrelated information be exchanged? Can you discuss freely on Forum? Can you administrate the system easily? Once the server may shut down, thousands of users will get stack immediately. And information sharing may not be worked out under such a circumstance.
In fact, this is exactly the problem our customers have been facing. Cybozu came up with a solution and is continuing to build a new concept for the groupware. This is what Cybozu is evaluated very high in the industry.
'You should share information unit by unit in big corporations and as a whole company in mid/small size companies' This is the concept Cybozu is proposing and the main reason why 99% of our customers are very satisfied with our products*.
